SAN DIEGO, December 12, 2025 — Every December, while children around the world prepare their wish lists and count down the days until Christmas, Interpreters Unlimited prepares for something equally magical, helping NORAD bring Santa to life for millions of families in every corner of the globe. The NORAD Tracks Santa Program is entering another season of worldwide celebration, and this year, language access will reach more households than ever before.
Interpreters Unlimited has supported NORAD Tracks Santa for well over a decade, providing pro-bono language services that help children follow Santa’s journey across the world in their native language. What began years ago with translations in a select number of major languages has grown into a global communication effort that reflects the true diversity of the Christmas season.
This year marks one of the most significant expansions in the program’s accessibility. For the first time IU is expanding real time interpreter access from 8 major languages to more than 200 languages through IU’s virtual platform on December 24th, allowing more children and families than ever worldwide to speak directly with the NORAD team regardless of language barriers. At the same time, NORAD has enabled web-based calling so children who do not have access to international phone services will still be able to connect free of charge, opening the experience to communities historically unable to participate.
Website and video narration content will continue to be translated into eight major languages, ensuring that the experience is not limited to English speaking users. These enhancements are expected to significantly increase global engagement, particularly from countries and communities where Santa tracking has traditionally been limited by cost or language access.
“Every year we’re amazed by the number of families who join in from around the world,” said Shamus Sayed, CEO of Interpreters Unlimited. “This is one of our most meaningful partnerships because it’s not just about language, it’s about joy, imagination, being a part of something historic, and making sure every child has the same chance to experience the magic.”
The NORAD Tracks Santa story is part of military history and holiday tradition. What started in 1955 with a misdialed phone number that led children to call NORAD’s predecessor has evolved into a massive worldwide program supported by advanced tracking technology, satellites, radar, and now multilingual call centers and translated digital experiences. In 2024 there were over 32.5 million website page views from over 5.5 million different site visitors, spanning every continent. On December 24th, 2024, NORAD handled more than 381,000 phone calls from around the world as families checked in on Santa’s progress. Thanks to incredible volunteers, hundreds of thousands of kids around the world speak with a real person on Christmas Eve.
For Interpreters Unlimited, the partnership represents more than a seasonal project, it reflects the company’s mission of bridging cultures and ensuring no one is left out due to language. From hospitals to schools to government agencies, IU provides language access across the US year-round, but the annual NORAD initiative stands as one of its most far-reaching philanthropic contributions.
“Language shouldn’t be a barrier to joy,” said IU President Sayed Ali. “Whether someone is calling from Atlanta, Tokyo, Bogotá, or a military base overseas, we want them to feel connected to the same story.”
The NORAD Tracks Santa experience is live throughout December, with interactive features, games, and videos available at www.noradsanta.org. On December 24th, families can speak with NORAD volunteers and interpreters live via online calling or by dialing 1-877-HiNORAD for Santa’s up to date location.

SAN DIEGO, August 13, 2025 — This year Interpreters Unlimited (IU) marks a major milestone, 55 years of providing essential language services to organizations and individuals across the United States. What began in 1970 as a local interpreting company has grown into a nationally recognized leader in foreign language interpretation, American Sign Language (ASL), and document translation, serving thousands of clients from the smallest to largest corporations, healthcare, education, government, legal, and every other industry.
“Language is more than just words. It’s culture, connection, access and it’s essential” said Sayed Ali, President and CEO of Interpreters Unlimited. “For 55 years, our mission has remained the same, to ensure that no one is left out of critical conversations because of a language barrier.”
Over the decades, IU has evolved alongside the language services industry, leading the way with cutting edge solutions and a deep commitment to human expertise. Under the leadership of Sayed Ali since 2007, the company has expanded from its Southern California headquarters in San Diego to offices in multiple states, offering services nationwide in over 200 languages, including a dedicated division for ASL and access to On Site In Person interpretation, Over the Phone interpretation, and Video Remote interpretation.
But the company’s impact extends beyond its core services. IU has become a trusted voice in advocacy, working with national associations, policymakers, and industry peers to protect and promote language access. The company has played a key role in addressing challenges such as California’s AB5 legislation, advocating for the rights of interpreters and the communities they serve, and is currently working on solutions to the current administrations new Executive Order 14224 which is impacting the language service industry and the public’s access to the essential services they require day to day.
In recent years, IU has embraced the future of language services by integrating tech and AI driven tools to complement its human centered approach. From creating their own proprietary auto scheduling technology, to launching a mobile scheduling app, to expanding its services with hybrid Human x AI translation, the company continues to lead with purpose and innovation.
IU has also been well recognized over the years. They earned repeated placement on the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Companies list and received top rankings from industry analysts like Nimdzi and CSA Research. They’ve been honored with awards including the SBA Minority Owned Small Business of the Year, the US Chamber of Commerce CO-100 America’s Top 100 Small Businesses, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist, Best in Biz Awards Service of the Year and the San Diego Business Journal Outstanding Social Responsibility Finalist to name a few. These accolades underscore IU’s reputation as both a fast growing business and a mission driven organization.
“55 years of service isn’t just about longevity, it’s about evolution,” said IU Vice President and COO Shamus Sayed. “We’ve seen massive shifts in technology, regulation, and the global economy. Through it all, we’ve stayed true to our values, accessibility, integrity, and community. This anniversary is a celebration of our past and a recommitment to our future.”
As Interpreters Unlimited celebrates this anniversary, it does so with gratitude for its clients, interpreters, partners, and team members, those who have contributed to every milestone. Today the company is focused on what’s next, continuing to expand nationally, leveraging technology and AI responsibly, and ensuring language equity remains a priority in all public and private sectors. With new technology on the horizon, shifting national policies, and growing diversity across the US, the need for trusted language services is only increasing, and IU is ready to meet the need now more than ever.

SAN DIEGO, July 1, 2025 — Across the United States, from hospitals and classrooms to courtrooms and government agencies, one thing is becoming impossible to ignore, the need for professional language services is increasing. State after state, the US is experiencing a significant shift in its linguistic and cultural landscape and it’s more than a trend.
In 2024, the human interpretation market saw an impressive 25.5% increase, reaching $11.6 billion. The numbers don’t lie, more Americans are seeking help in languages other than English, and the institutions that serve them must evolve and meet this rise in demand quickly.
The US foreign born population hit an all time high of nearly 48 million in 2023, growing by 3.3 million in just one year. These individuals are not temporary visitors. Many are permanent residents, citizenship applicants, or asylum seekers, future citizens, people navigating the most important moments of their lives from medical diagnoses to legal hearings, child welfare decisions, school enrollment for their children and on. 2024 even concluded with nearly 3 million inadmissible encounters at US borders, highlighting the increasing number of individuals seeking entry into the country.
Industry data reflects this shift as well. In Healthcare, since the pandemic, Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) usage has increased by 50%. Today, 65% of U.S. hospitals use it regularly to bridge language gaps. K–12 schools have seen a 13% rise in English Learners over the past decade. They now make up more than 10% of the national student population. US courts have reported a 30% rise in interpreter hours over the last five years, reflecting increased demand for access to justice across languages. And in Government, federal spending on language services has grown to an estimated $700–800 million annually, with nearly half of all agencies relying on interpreters to serve diverse communities.
This isn’t just a matter of operational need, it’s a question of access, equity, and readiness. Institutions must adapt not only to comply with legal obligations, but to build trust and deliver essential services effectively. Language is often the bridge between confusion and clarity, between fear and understanding.
While many organizations are scrambling to respond, some providers have been working in this space for decades. Interpretation and translation companies like Interpreters Unlimited, which has operated for over 50 years providing foreign language interpretation and document translation, report firsthand the sharp increase in language service requests, not just from immigration related offices, but from public schools, hospitals, courts, and state agencies.
“We’re seeing more demand across the board, it’s not just one sector, and it’s not going away,” said Shamus Sayed, COO of Interpreters Unlimited. “Organizations are beginning to realize that serving diverse communities means meeting people where they are, and that starts with language. It’s not just an option anymore, it’s a necessity.”
As immigration remains in the national conversation and our population becomes more linguistically diverse, it’s clear this isn’t a passing moment. For all organizations, all industries, this moment presents both a challenge and an opportunity to build systems that are more inclusive, responsive, and prepared for the demographic realities of the country. As the country continues to diversify linguistically, and more residents and families seek essential services without full fluency in English, experts say organizations must prepare now or risk falling behind.
Providing high quality, professional language services is not only essential for effective communication, it’s the foundation for equity, trust, and service accessibility in a changing America. A reliable language partner isn’t optional, it’s essential.

SAN DIEGO, May 29, 2025 — In a country where over 25 million individuals speak English less than “very well,” ensuring equal access to services is not just good practice, it’s a necessity. At Interpreters Unlimited, we’ve always been dedicated to bridging language gaps through professional interpretation and document translation services. Now, we’re proud to expand our offerings to help your organization go a step further with comprehensive Language Access Plans (LAPs).
A Language Access Plan (LAP) is a strategic document that outlines how your organization will ensure that individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) can access your services in a meaningful way. It’s a formal roadmap to inclusivity, and in many cases, it’s required by law.
Whether you’re in healthcare, education, government, law enforcement, transportation, or corporate services, having an LAP in place can help you better serve your communities, meet regulatory requirements, and demonstrate your commitment to equitable access.
With the continued rise in immigration and demographic shifts across the U.S., the demand for language access has surged. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, one in five households now speaks a language other than English at home. Many of these individuals rely on the services of public and private institutions, but without language access, those services become difficult, if not impossible, to use.
Recent state level legislation, such as Colorado’s House Bill 25-1153 and California’s expanded LEP requirements, reflects a broader national movement toward language equity. Entities that receive federal funding, including schools, hospitals, courts, and local governments, are required under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to provide meaningful access to LEP populations. Failure to comply can result in costly legal consequences and reputational damage.
But beyond compliance, having a Language Access Plan is simply the right thing to do. It builds trust, increases satisfaction, and ensures that everyone, regardless of language, can engage fully and fairly with your organization.
Our LAP Services Include:
> A full assessment of the LEP communities you serve
> Customized language assistance strategies and tools
> Creation of clear internal policies and protocols for your staff
> Training programs to prepare staff and leadership to implement the plan
> Ongoing monitoring, updates, and evaluation to keep your LAP effective and responsive
Interpreters Unlimited brings decades of experience in language services, cultural competency, and compliance. Our LAPs are designed to be comprehensive, actionable, and tailored to your specific organizational needs and legal obligations.
Developing a Language Access Plan is more than just a checklist item, it’s an investment in the people you serve. It sends a message that your organization values communication, equity, and dignity for all. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind because of a language barrier.
Language Access Plans aren’t just forms to be filled out, they are strategic tools that reflect your organization’s values, compliance readiness, and commitment to equitable service. At Interpreters Unlimited, we’ve positioned ourselves at the forefront of language access planning, developing and implementing LAPs across nearly every state for organizations in healthcare, government, legal, education, and beyond.
Connect with one of our LAP Advisors today for a complimentary strategy consultation. During this session, you’ll gain insight into how other leading institutions are approaching language access, receive a tailored framework built around your operations, and benefit from expert guidance in understanding the specific legal and compliance requirements in your city, county, or state.
This isn’t a generic template, it’s a high-level, consultative service designed to give you clarity, direction, and a clear competitive advantage. Let’s ensure your organization isn’t just meeting expectations, but setting the standard for language accessibility. Contact us for your consult today!

SAN DIEGO, April 23, 2025 — Fresh off of being named a Finalist for CEO of the Year by the San Diego Business Journal, Interpreters Unlimited CEO and PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) Board Member Sayed Ali, is being honored, along with Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera, by PATH at their “A Toast to Home San Diego” event on April 24th. The event will celebrate a year of innovation, collaboration and partnership in their mission to end homelessness in San Diego.
PATH is one of the largest homeless service providers and affordable housing developers in California focusing on ending homelessness for individuals, families and communities. With over 70 locations, and serving over 150 cities throughout the state, PATH provides housing, food, medical/street outreach programs, medical and mental health support, employment assistance, Veteran services and more to those in need.
PATH is a crucial resource in San Diego and throughout California. In 2024, San Diego County once again saw a rise in homelessness, with over 10,000 people experiencing homelessness. In their 2024 Point-in-Time Count for San Diego County, the Regional Task Force on Homelessness found a 3% increase from 2023 to 2024. 6,110 of those experiencing homelessness were unsheltered, which was an 18% increase from the previous year. From July 2023 to June 2024 alone, PATH helped approximately 8,000 San Diego region homeless access critical resources, served over 150,000 meals at their interim shelter, and helped over 1,000 move into their own homes.
At the “A Toast to Home San Diego” event, they will not only shine a spotlight on the amazing dedication of PATH’s team and honor Sayed for his outstanding dedication and contributions to creating housing solutions and uplifting our community, but it will also help raise essential funds to continue delivering housing and support services throughout San Diego. Contributions during the fundraising portion of the event go towards everything from essential care items, transportation assistance, case management services and groceries for the homeless, to moving them into homes and furnishing homes.
Since joining PATH’s advisory board many years ago, Ali has been instrumental in supporting initiatives that provide housing solutions and comprehensive services to those experiencing homelessness in San Diego. His leadership and philanthropic efforts have contributed greatly to PATH’s mission. Ali’s involvement with PATH goes beyond board meetings, he takes an active role in hands on efforts that deliver shelter, support, and hope to those in need.
While he runs national language services company Interpreters Unlimited by day, he also spends his time advocating for people who often go unheard. Through personal volunteer efforts, company support, and deep involvement with PATH’s mission, Ali has become a key part of the organization’s efforts in San Diego. Whether he’s mentoring young entrepreneurs, helping a family navigate housing support, or donating time at a shelter or food pantry, Ali’s focus remains on giving back and lifting others up.
“When I first got involved with PATH, I knew I wanted to be more than just a name on a board,” said Ali. “Homelessness isn’t something we can ignore. These are people with stories, with families, with hopes. If we have the means to help, even in small ways, I believe we have the responsibility to do so. I’m incredibly honored to be recognized by an organization I respect so deeply. It’s the work that matters, and I’m just grateful to be part of it.”

SAN DIEGO, April 15, 2025 — Interpreters Unlimited (IU) is proud to announce that its CEO, Sayed Ali, has been named a finalist for the San Diego Business Journal’s 2025 CEO of the Year Award. This recognition honors leaders who demonstrate outstanding business expertise, leadership, and community impact in the San Diego region.
Ali, an accomplished entrepreneur and business leader, has spent decades building and growing successful companies. After immigrating to the U.S. from India in 1966 to pursue a degree in electronic engineering, he gained extensive corporate management experience before launching his first business, Creative Host Services, which he later grew into a NASDAQ-listed company and sold for $43 million in 2004.
In 2007, Ali acquired Interpreters Unlimited and transformed it into a nationally recognized leader in language services. Under his leadership, IU has expanded its offerings across the country, providing critical interpretation and translation services in over 200 languages. His forward thinking approach has helped IU implement cutting-edge technology, including the proprietary IU Match-Connect system, which streamlines interpreter matching and appointment management for clients.
Beyond business success, Ali is deeply committed to fostering a positive workplace culture at IU, promoting inclusivity, mentorship, and professional development. His leadership style prioritizes collaboration and innovation, encouraging employees to share ideas and drive meaningful change. His decision to implement a permanent remote work option has increased both productivity and employee satisfaction.
Ali’s contributions extend far beyond the business world. He is a dedicated philanthropist, actively supporting organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House, Endangered Species International, Survivors of Torture International, and the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center. As an advisory board member for PATH San Diego, he plays a key role in efforts to combat homelessness, advocating for housing, healthcare, and outreach initiatives. Through his involvement with SBA SCORE and the Chairman’s Roundtable, he has mentored countless aspiring entrepreneurs, helping them navigate challenges and build successful businesses.
“Being recognized as a finalist for CEO of the Year is truly an honor,” said Ali. “Leadership is about empowering others, fostering innovation, and giving back to the community. I’m grateful to be part of a company and a city that values these principles.”
